Initial Case Management Conference (ICMC) in Minnesota Family Court

In Divorce and Family law cases throughout the Twin Cities, the Initial Case Management Conference (ICMC) is typically the first court appearance with a Judge.  The ICMC provides the parties with an opportunity to discuss important topics such as whether a Social and/or Financial Early Neutral Evaluation process would be appropriate, and also whether there are any legal areas that require special attention, such as mental health or addiction issues that may impact a minor child.  Parties who attend an ICMC usually find the process to be both informative and productive.

The ICMC process has been adopted by Family Courts in all counties in the metro area including Hennepin, Anoka, Scott, Dakota, Ramsey, Carver, Wright and Washington.  The benefit of using the SENE and/or FENE process (which will typically begin within 30 to 45 days of the ICMC) in a Divorce or Family Law case is that it gives the parties a neutral evaluation of their case at the early stages, by an expert, in a confidential environment.  Most Judges are strong proponents of using the SENE and/or FENE process in Divorce and Family Law cases, as it tends to assist the parties with the resolution of disputes related to children and financial matters more efficiently and with less cost.
