Parenting Time in Minnesota Family Law Cases
In Minnesota, Parenting Time (sometimes referred to as Visitation) describes the time that each parent has with a minor child. In most Family Law cases, parents are able to make effective decisions regarding their parenting time without the need for substantial input from the Court.
In many cases, parenting time and holiday schedules can be prepared by and agreed to by the parents, with guidance and input from legal counsel.
In some cases, Parenting Time disagreements create issues that impact the ability of parents to cooperate and properly co-parent. These cases may require more input from the Court and generally will require the parents to participate in a Social Early Neutral Evaluation or Mediation.
Benefits of a Well Drafted Parenting Plan
Parenting Plans are a useful tool that can help parents to better define their Parenting Time. In addition, well-drafted Parenting Plans make it easier for parents to minimize conflict and to communicate more effectively, thereby reducing the need for unnecessary conflict after the case is completed. Effective co-parenting will provide substantial benefits for the child or children.
